Making Groups Safe, Making Groups Live!

Making Groups Safe, Making Groups Live!

When running groups, whatever the group, there is often anxiety – for the leader as well as participants. There is a worry that the group could get out of control or that certain themes could make the group less safe. That someone might “lose it” or there is so much to get through that we can’t waste time being too personal. These and other worries often make a group leader tense and lead them to a very conservative, safe and sometimes lifeless session. Either that or they feel they must be the most lively and have all the answers to life’s questions.

Safety, for all is of key importance, so it’s worth spending a bit of time to learn some tried and true methods for establishing and ensuring continued safety in a new or existing group. Being able to bring a group to life, create surprise, enjoyment, playfulness and delight is essential for effective groups.

Some of the content covered in Making Groups Safe, Making Groups Live:

• A greater sense of the learning and therapeutic value of groups
• A clearer view of groups and group dynamics
• A more relaxed and/or excited approach to working in groups
• A number of tailored processes you can immediately apply to the groups you work with
• Freed up from some old panics or worries about group work “problems”

Learn how to easily instantly detect group dynamics and measure group interactions in a creative manner. Learn how to apply some straightforward group principles in an easy friendly way. Find out how to use concretisation and its value for developing creativity in yourself and others. Get to know about sociometry and its application to groups and organisations. Find out how you can stay relaxed and connected while running a group.
